Conditions, Weather and Official Safety Resources
Where to find official forecasts, weather alerts, avalanche bulletins and road information, and how to read them without overinterpreting them.
Good decisions on a ski trip start with good information: a National Weather Service forecast for the right location and elevation, any active winter weather alerts, the road report for the drive, and, for anyone traveling beyond ski area boundaries, the bulletin from the local avalanche center. These guides explain where each kind of information comes from and what it can and cannot tell you.
We do not give route advice, backcountry guidance or snow-safety instruction. Ski area boundaries, closures and patrol instructions exist for a reason. For travel outside a ski area, we point you to official avalanche centers, accredited avalanche education and qualified guides.
