Debt-to-income limits
28% and 36% are common rules of thumb. Each loan program sets its own limits.
Estimated price you could consider
Up to about $277,000
The housing-cost limit is the limiting factor.
See listings up to $277,000A planning estimate rather than a pre-approval. It leaves out closing costs, savings reserves, credit score effects and program-specific rules, so talk with a licensed lender before you shop.

How this estimate works
The calculator finds the highest price whose full monthly cost (principal and interest, property tax, insurance, HOA and PMI) stays within two limits: housing costs as a share of gross monthly income, and all monthly debts including housing as a share of gross income. The lower of the two sets the budget.
Lenders look at much more: credit history, savings, employment, the loan program and the property. A comfortable budget can also be lower than what a lender approves. The CFPB's homebuying guide walks through the process.
